Dark, disturbing, and enthralling.. Cranberry Cove stands crumbling and abandoned on a city street corner with an unspeakable past. Within the hallowed halls is a darkness and suffocating silence ready to consume those who enter. Since the 70's, only men have been assaulted and vanished without a trace inside the hotel walls. Emberly and Conner, our unlikely crime enforcers turned paranormal investigators, have been sent by their crime boss to investigate the assault of his son in room 2A at Cranberry Cove, before an all out gang war ensues. Determined to find the person behind the assault, they are left with more questions than answers and a darkness that follows Emberly beyond Cranberry Cove. I loved the camaraderie and comfortability between Emberly and Conner. The honest conversations about gender, and Conner's acceptance of Emberly's transition. Emberly is one of those characters you wish you could read about again. Piper's beautiful prose breathes life into the walls and forgotten rooms of Cranberry Cove making it become a living, breathing entity yearning to get what it desires and share it's secrets. This novella is so much more than a haunted building/ hotel trope. It will crawl under your skin and stick with you. Knock. Knock. Knock...
