dire bound by sable sorensen was… a lot. and not in a good way. this is fourth wing but wolves. it felt like every popular romantasy trope was crammed into this book. first, this book is WAY too long. 600 pages is criminal when the plot moves at a snail’s pace. so much of this story could’ve been cut or condensed without losing anything important. second, the spicy scenes were… not great. they felt random, didn’t add any depth to the story, and felt like filler. i genuinely don’t understand why we needed six sex scenes between characters we all know are not endgame. why are they still together 80% into the book when it’s painfully obvious he’s not the love interest and is clearly going to do something messed up? and that character? insufferable. cringey. i never want to see the word kitten again as long as i live. the fmc somehow managed to be even worse. she’s selfish, annoying, and stacked with the worst traits possible. i spent most of the book wondering why anyone put up with her at all. the worldbuilding was also weirdly off. there’d be these random info dumps about locations or lore that didn’t feel necessary or well integrated, just dropped in and moved past. every “plot twist” was extremely obvious, which made the slow pacing feel even slower. nothing surprised me. nothing shocked me. i was just waiting for the book to end. overall, dire bound felt bloated, trope-stuffed, and painfully predictable. if you love familiar romantasy moments and don’t mind a long, meandering ride, you might enjoy it. for me, it was a struggle to get through. and seriously… why is this book 600 pages????
