Do you ever read a book and think “this would have been better if it was 40% less wordy”? Because that’s how I feel about this book. It just kept going on and on and on… It’s only the second Stephen King book that I’ve read, and honestly it’s not selling me on reading another. I did enjoy his short, broken down chapters, but the writing style overall was a little annoying? He just kept repeating himself. Some plot lines weren’t really developed- (like what happened to the girl from the high school he was supposed to go on a date with? and why was he unable to say “miles” in Empis, but Claudia was able to say it with ease?) - which is crazy because he had 600 pages to work with. I read this for a book club, and honestly I do not suggest picking it up unless you really love fairytales, listening to Stephen King talk about people fart, or stories about a boy risking everything for a dog. There were some parts that I really did enjoy reading (the beginning with Mr Bowditch, him being in Deep Maleen) but it just kept dragging on. I really could have done without this book. It seems like it was written solely for the sake of being turned into a movie/ tv show. Now I need something to drag me out of the slump this book threw me in.
