3.5/5 ⭐️ (rounding up for goodreads) Sloane is a new mother trying to raise her daughter, Isla. With a new baby in the house, the true colors of her husband, Max, (who was once oh so wonderful) are revealed. He is lazy, he is distant, and he pisses Sloane off. Sloane was once an author and a sociologist, but now she is a Mother. She is slowly trying to acclimate back into the real world (which her husband never left) and takes up an adjunct teaching position at the same college her husband was hired at (he’s on track for tenure!) Sloane has to put her life on pause for Max, she’s not taken seriously by him or her boss, AND she has to make dinner every single night? She’s really starting to get sick of this. Nina Kaur is a twin who is attending a prestigious college, rushing to join a new sorority house as a sophomore. The House is a highly exclusive group of women who have all gone on to do exciting, amazing things. Doctors, astronauts, surgeons, celebrities- the list goes on. Every single woman who has left the house has an amazing, glamorous life. Nina believes in The House and everything it stands for and desperately wants to be part of a sisterhood. The chapters go back and forth between the two women, slowly overlapping as we realize Sloane befriends another mother, Alex (who is an alumni on the board of the house), Sloane’s husband is a professor at the college for girls in the house, Sloane’s new TA is Nina’s cousin, and there’s a disturbing secret as to why everyone who’s a member of the house is so perfect. The story is so interesting, but some of the dialogue scenes between characters fell flat for me. I really loved the ending so much! Definitely a fun, slightly horror, lit-fic to read.
