"I lived through the punk era and all I got is this fucking ringing in my ears." Elena is a bad-ass retired photographer from the New York 80's punk scene who is struggling with hearing loss. She begins to hear strange noises and what she believes may be the murders of women from her youth, including her best friend, Sin, under the hum of her tinnitus. For more than 40 years Elena has avoided the city and her past by escaping to a secluded house in the woods of Vermont, but when one of her photographs of a recently deceased musician goes viral, she is forced to revisit her past and dig into what really happened to these women all those years ago. It was so refreshing to read about a 66-year old FMC who does not give a shit what anyone thinks! This was edgy and atmospheric and I wish I could have attended an 80's punk show at "Quarantine" with Elena. (Minus the murders of course). This is more of a "slow burn" that's very character focused, but Elena is so relatable and easy to love and root for. Thank you Source Books and Net Galley for the opportunity to read this early!
