What readers say
i can’t stop crying my immediate reaction the last twenty or so pages was just to sob- i could not stop crying. something about things left unsaid for too long just get me bc HOW DO YOU GO TWENTY SEVEN YEARS WITHOUT SPEAKING ABOUT SOMETHING!!!! the narrator (hink, jordan, unnamed until the very last page) goes to college and falls in love. but it is much more complicated than that- she falls in love, and then for real. she reads books because he told her to, loves poems that make her think of him, everything she does is for him, about him, with him in mind. it is intense, it is real. perhaps it scares him a little bit, although he feels the same way. i’m trying to dance around the plot points because i went into this knowing nothing, and so should you. the way King writes is stunning, blunt, tear jerking. i could telll from 40% that i would end up sobbing. the way it’s told just gives you that creeping feeling of too good to be true, what’s the catch? will you destroy me? why i gravitate towards book that absolutely devastate me and leave me bawling my eyes out, im not quite sure. but if you loved ‘the goldfinch’, ‘a little life’ or anything of that sort you will absolutely love this. this book has instantly become a favorite and now i want to read everything lily king has written, pretty please.
