for starters… i have never read macbeth, nor did i know anything about the story going into this 🫣 this book had witchcraft, deception, death, heartbreak, a touch of love… what more could you ask for from a gothic historical fiction with a touch of fantasy? i loved experiencing the story through roscille’s perspective. she was clever, determined, and easy to root for. while she could be a little naive at times, she’s only 17, so she’s forgiven. the writing was phenomenal. i felt completely immersed in the story from beginning to end, and the prose added such a haunting, gothic atmosphere that perfectly matched the narrative. overall, i loved this book and will definitely be reading more from ava reid in the future. my only regret is borrowing it from the library instead of buying a copy because there were so many things i wanted to annotate 😭
