i avoided reading this book for the longest time because i hate the cover😭 but finally a few people told me i would really enjoy it, and the trailer for the tv show looked amazing, so i caved in and read the book. i actually listened to it as an audiobook with elle fanning as the narrator, who did an awesome job and kept me entertained the entire time. the story felt like listening to a voice memo from a friend that’s going through it. margo is FUNNY, she is genuinely a good person, she is loving, and she is kind- despite all the hate pointed towards her and the mishaps that come her way. margo’s a college student who gets knocked up by her english professor (who is having an affair with her behind his wife’s back). he tells margo to get an abortion- she decides she’s going to keep the baby. everyone tells her that she’s making the wrong decision- her mom, her friends, her professor. but margo believes she is making the right one. and when bodie is born, although it IS a lot on her plate, and she loses her job, and she’s extremely stressed out- margo knows that she loves bodie more than anything in the entire world, and that’s all that matters. we follow margo post childbirth for most of the novel, watching her try to navigate her new life and most importantly make money. she reconnects with her dad who was MIA for most of her life (who moves in with her after coming out of rehab), she becomes estranged from her mother, and she becomes a cam girl on onlyfans. none of this is where she expected to be at 20 years old, but surprisingly, she doesn’t hate it. this story is funny, it is raunchy and it is wholesome. i loved every minute of it.
