What readers say
Sometimes, a girl’s one true love in her life is her mother. It’s that way for me. My mother is my best friend- we do everything together. I do not know what I would do without her. I would be lost without her. I ask her for advice on everything; both trivial and important. She is the first person I think about every morning. I call her just to hear her voice. I love the way she smells. I love hearing her tell stories. I love when she cuts fruit for me as a snack or when she cooks me dinner. I love the way she interacts with my friends, and how they love her too. If you love your mother, this book will be hard to read but also so so special for you. Katy’s mother dies, and she is lost. They had a trip planned to Italy together, and after her death, Katy takes the trip alone. She doesn’t expect to meet her mother while she’s there, thirty years younger. She befriends her, she spends time with her, she asks her questions she wishes she had while she was still alive. I am beyond lucky to say that I do not understand the grief of losing my mother, but this book only makes me appreciate the time I have with her so much more. Be prepared to shed some tears while reading this. The ending is beautiful. Also, the scenery is described so wonderfully, you can clearly visualize the small Italian town- especially if you have been to coastal Italy yourself.
