3.5 ⭐️ this was my first carley fortune book and wow… her writing is beautiful. she has such a talent for creating a setting and atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re right there with the characters. the summer vacation vibes were immaculate, and i loved how immersive the story felt. i also really enjoyed the flashbacks throughout the book. they helped build frankie and george’s history in a way that made me feel connected to their friendship and understand why they meant so much to each other. that being said… holy codependency. maybe it’s just me, but having your best friend’s name tattooed on you is a little weird. frankie seemed almost obsessed with george at times, and i spent a good chunk of the book wanting frankie to go to therapy. the abandonment issues, the whale hatred, the glasses cleaning… girl, please. he’s a grown man. frankie was also painfully oblivious at times, which could be frustrating, but i still found myself invested in the story and rooting for the characters. despite usually not being a fan of friends-to-lovers romances, i thought this one struck a good balance between friendship, romantic tension, and love. the ending was incredibly sweet, and overall i thought this was a good story with some meaningful messages about friendship, family, forgiveness, and healing.
