Servant of Earth (The Shards of Magic, #1)

This book stands out from the rest where the protagonist is not of immediate or born status but rather achieves it through a series of trials. The reader was focused on Lara, who’s trying to pass the trials, rather than Kenna, who is aiding her through each one. Kenna ultimately becomes the focal point of the story, proving she is as strong-willed and courageous as the fae. Kenna’s character was beautifully written and complex, not simple minded. Although I did guess what Kenna was going to become, this was such an enjoyable read filled with action and betrayal.
