What readers say
compared often to sweetbitter, i can see exactly why. the prose is almost identical especially at the start. the story takes place in dublin rather than new york, and is told from three pov: a man being accused of sexual harassment at his restaurant (dan), his wife (julie), and a female waitress he employed (hannah). another former waitress (tracy), an attractive woman with a bad reputation, writes a letter online exposing dan and his restaurant for their overall misconduct, inappropriate behavior and alleged SH. the book follows the trial and the verdict, as well as hannah’s struggles to keep up with the fast paced lifestyle of the restaurant and the memories of working there. the story was so beautifully written, despite certain parts feeling a little too familiar and easy to understand. parts of hannah remind me of myself at eighteen working in a restaurant. if you’re a young woman whose ever worked in hospitality you can also probably relate to certain parts a little too well. i loved this book a lot. i love when an author can address something so precisely, something that you’ve thought about, a feeling that you aren’t able to put into words. i sometimes love when taboo is brought out into the open. this book is definitely a future favorite for me.
