3.5/5 ⭐️ thank you to astra house publishing for gifting me this review copy 💫 this book drew me in right away with the super cool cover art and the synopsis. i picked it up a few months ago and got lost in my endless tbr pile but picked it up again this weekend and devoured it. originally published in french in the 90s, this is a reissue translated to english. it is basically an inside look at the french rave scene of the 90s which is so incredibly cool. literary fiction, queer cool girl novel. louise is a woman in her thirties who wears insane vintage graphic tees with the nastiest slogans, attenda the sickest underground dj sets put on by her friends, and even secures an advance from a record label to make her own music. she’s loves drugs, she loves sex (both girls and guys), she loves the whole scene and lifestyle of it all. but she’s not sure which path she wants to take when big life-changing decisions start presenting themselves. she seems to be slipping back into a past version of herself instead of moving forward onto bigger and better things. this was a really cool niche novel and i loved it so much. it really picked up towards the end. i would recommend to anyone who likes electronic music, french pop culture, or ever had an obsession with dazed magazine.
