4.5/5 stars It’s the 90s and Charlie is a movie buff in college when her best friend,Maddy, is killed by the Campus Killer- a serial killer who collects a tooth from each of his victims. Charlie was the last person to see Maddy the night she died, standing outside a local bar with a man. Desperate to leave campus, she accepts a ride from a stranger she’s never met. She embarks on an overnight road trip back home on the interstate with this stranger and quickly learns that he may have lied about his identity to get her in the car with him. Maddy is an unreliable narrator, and a bit insufferable TBH, seeing “movies in her mind” when situations become unbearable. This is the reason that she doesn’t recognize the man who Maddy left with outside the bar on the night of her murder. The night is full of twists and turns, and the final twist / reveal at the end is what made this book so great to me. I literally said “oh my god” out loud when I read it, and had to take a minute to reflect. It brought the book from 4 stars to nearly a 5. Definitely recommend to anyone who loves thrillers, movies, and a good twist!!!
