The plot was good despite being sad; reminded me of The Lovely Bones. Girls are kidnapped and brought to a “garden”; a glass enclosure with plants, a waterfall, ponds, real butterflies, etc. The man who kidnapped them “The Gardener” renames each girl and tattoos a butterfly on their back upon their arrival. They become specimens to collect & keep in his garden. Despite the abuse these girls go through, they bond and find a family within each other. The book takes place after the police raid and rescue of the garden, switching between the POV of a release Butterfly and FBI agents attempting to put the pieces of the story together. A good twist, with some things not really making much sense at the end; but there’s two more books so that’s probably why.
