The book has a great plot line but feeling confusing at times. The imagery was off and sometimes I would have to go back a page or so to remember where I even was. I think this story has a lot of potential if the pacing and writing was better. This book has a great ending though! Not sure yet if I’ll pick up book two.
*sigh* I wanted to love this book, I really did. The idea of the story is fascinating and is exactly what made me pick it up. I think could have made for a really great book, but I had several problems with it: 1. The book is short. I am completely on board and fine with a short read, especially when I need a break from the 600+ page fantasy books I normally gravitate towards. But considering the book IS short, some ground work has to be done to lay down a story. I feel like I got absolutely no ground work and was just expected to immediately follow along. I was 93% done and still didn't understand what the hell was happening. 2. I absolutely hated the narrator (I did an audiobook). I understand that is a me problem not a problem with the overall book, but towards the end of the book, she was seemingly and nonchalantly talking about what was going on, even in a very tense situation. I feel like I missed half of it because I didn't know it was a tense moment. There was almost NO animation or no inflection with the voice. 3. I feel like the author shoved every trope imaginable in and was like YEAH THE GIRLIES WILL LOVE THIS. This being labeled enemies to lovers makes absolutely zero sense. Yes the witches and vessels hate and have hated each other, okay fine I can buy that. But Willow being like "you won't catch me dead doing stuff with Grey" and five pages later, SPOILER they're doing stuff. They knew each other for all of two days. I would not call that enemies to lovers. 4. Grey is Lucifer? Predicable. 5. There was a point in the book that Grey said he "woke her up with my c**k between her legs" cool so straight up sexual assault. Honestly, this book had such great potential but halfway through I slowly realized this was not the book for me. There was practically no depth and no development of the story. I won't even read the sequel at this point.
