real review coming soon but holy shit that was good ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5, 10/10, no notes, perfection “she was a tragedy, and he was her peace.” i absolutely loved this book. the atmosphere, the mystery, the characters… everything about it worked for me. the setting is so haunting and eerie in the best way possible, and the 90s backdrop added so much to the overall vibe. it feels immersive from the very beginning, like there’s this constant sense of unease lingering underneath every scene. the vibes were genuinely immaculate. atta and sonder completely stole the show for me. their chemistry is incredible, and i loved the slow, careful build of their relationship. the slight forbidden aspect made everything feel even more intense, and every little interaction between them had me invested. sonder especially… i am such a sucker for a grumpy man who is only soft for one person, and the way he cared for atta absolutely got me. he’s guarded with everyone else but so gentle and protective with her, and i ate that up EVERY SINGLE TIME!! the mystery was another huge highlight. i loved how slowly the details were revealed and how the story constantly kept me questioning what was really happening. every answer seemed to uncover something even stranger underneath it. the plague storyline was also such a unique concept and made the world feel unsettling and original in a way i haven’t read before. overall this felt creepy, emotional, atmospheric, and completely addictive all at once. definitely going to be in my top reads of the year 🥰
