The Knight and the Moth (The Stonewater Kingdom, #1)

I actually really enjoyed this book. Some of the plot twists were a little predictable once you got to a certain place in the book, however I do read a lot of fantasy so that could just be a me problem. I wasn’t a huge fan of the narrator but once I bumped the listening speed up it helped that out. I do wish there was a little more elaboration on the world building because I didn’t really understand what was happening for a while and then I kind of just accepted it and it ended up being fine. I will also say some of my questions were answered at the end of the book during one of the last interactions of the book. The only other negative thing I could possibly say is that some of the language felt…pretentious. I get it’s supposed to be knights and lords and ladies and kings, but some of the word choices felt “look at me I know synonyms”. It was weird at first but I got over it fairly quickly. I honestly think the gargoyle was the funniest thing and I was cracking up the entire time. I did NOT expect the ending which I appreciated it because it is kind of hard to surprise me now (again, I read a lot of fantasy so that’s a me problem). Overall I’d give it a solid 4/4.5 and I can’t wait for the next one.

i have no words for how good this book was. i trusted the hype and it was worth it. the writing? amazing. the banter/wit/humor? 10/10. the action and story? so good i’m sad it’s over. the romance was a slow burn that had me blushing. that ending??? my jaw actually dropped, i did not see that coming. now i’m going to not so patiently wait for book two. is it too soon to say this may be my favorite read of the year?… (it’s only january).

Oh lovely Bartholomew and kind-hearted Rory…my heart breaks for you.
