this was such a beautifully written book. the prose is immersive and poetic. i also loved the magical elements. the curse was fascinating, especially how it affected each woman differently, and i really enjoyed the personification of death, fate, and time. that said, i found myself losing a little interest as the story went on. after a while, the internal monologue became repetitive, and it started to feel like we were circling the same thoughts over and over without much actually happening. i was also a little confused by the main conflict. death quite literally tells astoria every time she brings someone back what the consequences are, so i wasn’t sure why seeing it from his perspective suddenly came as such a shock. that emotional reveal didn’t fully land for me because it felt like information we already had. i did enjoy the ending, even if i was expecting it to hit a little harder emotionally. overall, this was still an enjoyable read with plenty of touching moments, gorgeous writing, and some really creative magical concepts.
