Aging A-list movie star, Evelyn Hugo, seeks out no-name journalist Monique, working at Vivant (think Vogue in TJR universe) to write her tell-all life story. Hugo has been quiet about her personal life throughout history, so she knows that this story will be worth a pretty penny. She is adamant that Monique be the one to write “or she’s out”. Hesitant, Monique accepts the job, knowing that there’s got to be a catch. Hugo tells the story from the beginning, starting with Husband #1 and all the movies she’s made and stars she’s been with along the way. By the end I was in tears, I actually cried twice while reading this, and the twist at the end gave me whiplash. I wanted to hate this book due to its popularity but ended up loving it so much. 5 stars ⭐️
I read this book with zero idea of what the plot was so I was definitely taken by surprise. It had an incredible storyline that made me feel it was somewhat inspired by a true story. I love that Evelyn is such a complex character. I was unable to fully decide my opinion on her but definitely admired her ability to create her “dream” life. Very well written.
