<strong>beautiful. </strong><br><br>I was a bit skeptical when I read the overview. But this was a beautiful story and I can’t tell if the tears are from happiness or sadness. I’m so glad I gave it a chance. <br>
Oh my god I loved this book. I was hesitant to read because of the hype but again, it’s hyped for a reason. I had tears in my eyes by the end. It was so emotional and sad and happy all at the same time. The twists were all so predictable but it didn’t matter because the book was so amazing. I wanted to crawl between the pages and give Clementine and Iwan a hug. They were so perfect for each other. I love a “right person, wrong time” theme and this was just that. I devoured this book in hours; I couldn’t put it down, I became obsessed. This reminds me of one of my favorite books, “The Time Traveler’s Wife.” Clementine moves into her aunts NYC apartment after she dies and nothing is the same. Her favorite chair is gone, the room feels different. Growing up, she traveled the world with her aunt, they were closer than her and her own parents. Her aunt always told her stories of how the apartment was magical, and gave her a set of rules to live by. Always take your shoes off and never fall in love in the apartment. Clementine is filled with grief over the sudden loss of her aunt, and she steps into the apartment after a long day at work to be taken back 7 years in the past. She’s confused but she’s heard this story before told by her aunt. A boy is renting the apartment, as Clementine and her aunt (past versions) are spending the summer backpacking in Europe. Modern day Clementine meets past tense Iwan, an aspiring chef inspired by his grandpa, and decides that he can stay for the summer. They fall in love, despite the rules of the apartment, but the apartment decides when the time travel works and when it doesn’t. I really absolutely loved this book. Like I don’t have any words to describe the feelings that this book made me feel. If I read this as a teen I would have cried for weeks and reread it over and over again. I honestly want to read it again right now. It needs to be turned into a movie.
