Wonderful read. Clearly autobiographical to a degree. After all the best fiction is non fiction and the best nonfiction is fiction. Simplicity of his prose + the nuance of his observations of the world around him together are enough to transport you to another world. I found it very vivid and engaging. Makes me a bit sad travel is so easy now, no more hidden gems. Feels a bit like the worlds been explored in full, but maybe that’s just a needed nudge to get even further off the beaten path. Compelling stoicism to Jake character is also a nice perspective to be able to channel. Would recommend, just a wonderful different world to live in. Also a story only possible in walkable European cities where you can spontaneously bump into people all the time … couldn’t write this about a place you had to plan everything…
