Sometimes it’s great that what you’ve planned doesn’t work out. This is one of the many things this story is about. Phoebe is depressed, deep in her sorrows, with a feeling that she will drown in them. She goes to a resort to put an end to her suffering, but on reaching there, she finds out that she is the only guest who isn’t here for the week-long wedding. The bride, on learning that her very elaborate and expensive wedding can be ruined by this sad woman, sets out to make sure it doesn’t happen. And like this, they both become an integral part of each other’s journey of understanding what they truly want from life. This book is funny, but it will also make you rethink whether the way you’re living your life is because you think it’s the right, or even the safe, way to live, or if it is actually working out for you. I just love when books do that. It’s like a workout for your brain without realising the heavy lifting it’s doing. All the characters in this book have one thing in common: they are all trying to understand themselves, their desires, and their weird obsession with getting “it” right. Which honestly, I can understand. I wish I could practise what I’m about to say: there’s no right way to do life, and it’s pointless to stick to something that’s not doing anything for you. But Phoebe says it’s something that requires a lot of practice- to live like yourself, like all the other things in life, and I’m going to trust her. Because that’s the thing about her. Everyone spills their guts out to her like she’s their oldest and most reliable friend. Each character unpacks some hidden part of themselves, and it leads to more clarity for themselves, or Phoebe, or the readers. It’s very fascinating to see everyone open up to her so easily. If it were some other book, I would’ve had a problem with this kind of thing and called it “telling, not showing.” Not for this one, though. Because this book takes place over a week where a lot of life-changing things happen. Esp
