Wow. What a book. The ending was predictable but powerful. I even teared up a little bit. It reminded me of “The Lovely Bones”. I really felt horrible for Ellie the whole time and wished that there would be a better ending for her, something more positive. But that is the nature of the book. It is sadness and mystery and darkness. Ellie is the light in the story, and then, so is Poppy. Laurel is an easy to love, extremely maternal character, who never stops trying to figure out what happened to her daughter Ellie 10 years ago. While reading, I had many theories about possible scenarios that the ending could have blossomed into, so I was not really as surprised as I could have been. But that doesn’t make the book any less extraordinary. It was well written. I was eager to finish, and could not put the book down. I just wanted to piece everything together. Amazing book & I will definitely be reading more of Lisa Jewel’a work in the future.
