i could try to write some eloquent review but the only words coming to mind are “holy WOW”. i’m going to be honest and say i wasn’t sure how i felt until about the halfway mark (not that i wasn’t liking it, just didn’t know what my thoughts were). this book was a slow burn in world building and the plot build up with so many little moments of foreshadowing and things that make you go “what!!!”. the obsession crept up slowly but now i’m hooked. this was a great start to an epic series. i’ve already started book 2 🤭
I have absolutely no idea why this book took me almost a month to finish. It felt really hard to read coming off of ACOTAR, and while I understand that there needs to be setup, it just was dragging on. It finally got good halfway through the book but I still enjoyed it. I’m glad I read this first though because if I would have started with Assassin’s Blade I would have been pissed to come back to this.
