<div>Here’s the thing. 70%of the time it’s a phenomenal story with such a wonderfully written lead. Mattie Ross is a revenge seeking, no-nonsense, whip smart gal with gumption and she’s also 14. It’s amazing how captivating her story is <br><br>The other 30% I’m wrestling with the fact all of these characters thought the Confederacy was super cool and pepper it in to conversation. It’s hard to read a book that wears its character’s bigotry on their sleeve and does nothing to deconstruct or discuss it. <br><br>I’m sure it’s aged better than most westerns, and I did really liked it, but I’m not sure how whole heartedly I can recommend it </div>
