2.5 stars James & Isla have had a tough year after Isla's mom dying and other struggles. They receive an invitation from Isla's estranged sister Clara and her husband Greg, to spend Christmas Eve with them at an elaborate secluded cabin in the mountains. After much reluctance, James convinces Isla to go and try and repair her relationship with her sister. Once they get to the cabin, everything is off, Clara and Greg are trying too hard to make it seem like everything with them is perfect, and Isla is trying to figure out what has been going on with her sister. The power goes out in the middle of a winter storm, and the group separates to look at the generator. Enough said. I loved the build up in this, I was questioning which direction this was going to take, having a couple of different theories, but once it got going I was really let down. James would love to be Jack Torrance from The Shining, and wants so badly to be a cool villain, but really he's a whiney baby and a let down to the whole story.
